One is very spiritual - that would be God's word.
The other is very practical - that would be Crystal Paine's The Money Saving Mom's Budget.
Every morning I open God's word to the book of Ephesians, where I am studying along with the Good Morning Girls Bible Study Group. What a blessing it has been!
In writing down small passages each day, then pulling them apart to find the application, as well as the meaning of the verse, I have learned a few new things about God's love for all of us and grown more comfortable in this concept of GRACE.
I've been reminded of his beautiful gift of SALVATION, which had and has nothing to do with me, and only to do with his LAVISH GRACE (v.1:8).
Today I was reminded that God has a PURPOSE for each and every one of us; we were created to do GOOD WORKS, which He prepared for us in advance.
I love that! I love that he thought of each of us before we were even created and that he prepared OUR PURPOSE, before we knew we had one!
Isn't HE amazing in that way?
Now, on the practical side of life - in the Money Saving Mom's Budget book, Crystal says we need to make, not only a money budget, but a time budget, as well. And in her directions on how to do this, she talks about GOALS, and how, what we do each day should point toward those goals.
Do you see the connection?
We are here for a purpose and what we work toward, every day, should be toward that purpose.
If God called you to be a wife and mom, housekeeper and helpmeet, then do it with purpose. Know what your goals are and work daily to meet those goals.
What would that look like?
I believe the goals might vary with each household, but the basics would be the same: take pride in your home, keep it clean and orderly, keep it well stocked with supplies, keep it warm and inviting (hospitality is important too), and make it a place of refuge from the world.
Even in the everyday, mundane world of chores and diapers, grocery store trips and the evening meal, God has a purpose for your life! He created you with your works in mind! If those tasks are important to HIM, shouldn't they be important to us?
And, even in our homes, we can have goals. Goals to learn more, get better at, work toward. All of the things we're called to do for this season, we can do with pride and determination, because we now know that we're not merely spinning our wheels, waiting for our bigger purpose to come along, but we're living out our purpose, right here and now!
So, what are your goals? Can you get better at this job God has placed before you? Can you work with more direction, knowing that you're not just going through the motions, but working toward something?
Of course you can!
Look around your home, look at your marriage, your children, yourself, and decide what your goals are for each area, then write them down. That's the first step.
Then, change your attitude from one of going through the motions, to one of excitement and purpose; knowing you are right where God wants you and you are doing your best!
"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10

It amazes me how so many times the Lord is speaking to me on the very same things as He is you!! Thank you for such an encouraging post today!!
ReplyDeleteHe's been showing me this very thing for quite some time now. The journey is revealing His purpose for my life day after day! While some of it is purifying, trying, teaching, transforming and some times down right hard; He always in the ends gives joy coupled with the Peace that passeth all understanding!
What beauty!
