Help! We're Exhausted!

Don't let this sweet face fool you!

It's been a long time since we've had a cat in the house.   Years, in fact!   And, either I've forgotten everything about that time, way back when, or this cat is much different than the others.   Whatever the case - he is driving us crazy at night!

And, during the day, you just never know where he might show up............

I'm used to our sweet, obedient Schnauzer, Annie, who goes where we tell her to go and does what we tell her to do.

But this guy!    He's a typical cat - marching to the beat of his own drum!

If you have any tips on how to get a cat (who is a natural prowler at night) to go to sleep at night and not come in the bedroom and knock things over and make your husband throw things at him while he's still half asleep.......let me know!

In the meantime............

I'll be taking a catnap.    I'm tired!

I completely understand. We added a new cat to the household this past summer and she loves to stay up and play most of the night. It has gotten better since she has matured. Christmas was a nightmare with the tree. But she is so affectionate, we love her anyway.

As they get older, much of the prowling around at night does stop or at least slow down. We have 2 cats. One is 13 years old and pretty much avoids everyone...unless of course, she is in the mood for attention. Her romping around at night has long since past and she spends the majority of her nights (and days) sleeping. We rarely ever hear a peep out of her.

We have another cat as well. This one was a stray we found, planned to adopt out, but ended up keeping b/c we were never able to find him a home. He's about 1-2 years old, I guess. He's a little bit more rambunctious, but it rarely causes a problem for us at night. He's VERY lovey dovey and is quite content to curl up (wherever you are) and fall asleep next to you.

I think a lot of their playfulness at night is due to their personalities as well. It does simmer down with age though :)

Thank you both for the encouragement! Who needs sleep anyway, right?

Yes, this sounds familiar to me, lol, we have two cats ourselves.....Max and Oscar. They have gotten onto the shelf where my breakable items are, Oscar likes to get on our bed all the time, and Max has gotten himself stuck inside the kitchen cabinet. Lol, somehow he found a way to paw it open but then couldn't get himself out (such pathetic meowing, lol). Dh and I got tired of them pouncing on us in the middle of the night, so I just put them out at night before I go to bed (although I'm a little more lenient if the temperatures are freezing outside). This works out well for them since they are indoor/outdoor cats anyways. They like to eat and snooze inside and then go outside and "survey their domain", lol. I have to agree with the others though, it gets better as they mature.
