When the kids were younger we would take the entire month of December off
from all "official" academics
and focus on Christmas.
We would bake and make crafty things.
We would watch movies and read Christmas stories.
Where did those days go?
I want them back!
So, here it is....
a few weeks until Christmas
and we're still doing school.
I'm still cracking the whip every morning
and I'm losing it......
the desire to keep up
this facade of
"academic excellence"
and
I'm ready to say....
we're done!
I'm ready to watch
Christmas movies in the middle of the afternoon
with my 12 1/2 year old,
who, by this time next
year
may not want to do that with me again.
I'm ready to see Christmas lights
late at night,
without worrying about
getting in bed
because
"we have school in the morning."
I'm ready to drink
hot chocolate
and go shopping
and
do things that bring simple joys.
I'm ready to call it quits.
It's Friday.
Seems like the perfect day
to do just that.
Merry Christmas
everybody!

Merry Christmas, Debbie. We'll be 'calling it quits' next Friday. I'm ready!
ReplyDeleteRight there with ya, girl! :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great idea! I am staying up late almost every night watching Christmas specials!
